I made a setup to conduct a set of wetting experiments on a dry rectangular chromatography paper sample. The experiment demonstrates the utility of the proposed measuring method for dynamic moisture content measurement in porous media. This wetting process contains two stages: a moving wetting front and saturation. The wetting front is characterized by an abrupt change in the spatial distribution of moisture, which propagates through the paper in about 30 seconds. After the passage of the wetting front, water penetrates into the paper more slowly as the paper moisture content asymptotically approaches saturation.
